I'm travelling into a new way of working, a new country, a new language, and a new hobby which I'm passionate about. Come with me for some of the journey...

Inktober Week 2

Hello all - I'm still carving time out of each sorting/clearing/packing/moving day for at least a daily Inktober contribution.  I'm not following the main prompts, but working on autumn leaves, grasses, berries and flowers - things I really want to get better at.  I'm playing with line and wash - either starting with a pen sketch and then watercolouring, or adding pen work to a watercolour sketch.  And then there's usually a final stage of adding extra details with both!

There are up days and down days, ones I really like and others which make me less happy, but rather than faff around with all that, I'm just going to let you take a look for yourselves.  Welcome to the autumnal gallery.  (All the details of what materials I'm using are in Inktober Week 1.)

Day 8

Day 9

Day 10

Day 11

Day 12

Day 13

Day 14

Oh, and just before I go - I want to show you those sycamore seeds taken from life...

... and the grasses taken from some grasses I glued and sealed to watercolour paper three years ago and haven't got round to adding colour to yet (though I have watercoloured some of the ones I made!).

I'm pretty pleased with both these, and the cluster of purple ivy berries this week.  I hope you'll find some favourites amongst them too.

The learning curve is fascinating (and steep!) and I'm enjoying discovering what works for me and what doesn't... which is really the whole point of a daily challenge - as well as to keep me sane in the midst of trying to move house across a continent in the middle of a global pandemic.  (Top tip: don't do it!!)  But with Brexit looming - and who knows what horrors in terms of trying to take van loads of stuff across international borders - I've got to get out while I can.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you're all staying safe and well.  It looks as though we're in for a long hard winter, so I'm continuing to celebrate autumn with my Inktober sketches for as long as possible.

Wild is the music of the autumnal winds amongst the faded woods.

I'd like to offer up these line and wash paintings for Chris's lovely Art Journal Journey theme of Hold the Line

And I'd also like to join in at Paint Part Friday where it's the Week 33, Year 10 check in... so happy to have had last week's paintings picked out by the R.G.!

I'm going to add those berries to Sara Emily's Purple, Orange and Green theme over at the Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog - it's a rusty orange, but it's definitely in the orange zone, and she specifically said it didn't have to be Halloween!

A lovely autumn gallery. Favourites ...Queen’s Anne Lace looks so beautiful, along with the grasses and money tree, and the Brown Eyed Susans.
Thank you so much for helping me out with my ‘Crab Apple’ issue. :)
Best of luck with your move.

Even before I saw the real deal at the end, my favorite was the sycamore seeds. They were my favorite and I love them.. However, all your pieces this week are simply incredible. You draw SO very well, dear and I'm totally impressed.

I am glad you liked my post this week, But seeing what you created I think I have to go out picking more small stuff. Love the seeds of Linden, if I am not wrong. And grass always.
I vill mark this post for inspiration :)

All are lovely but the sycamore is simply stunning.

And when when your move is done and autumn fruits have been overtaken by snow, just think of mosses and lichen part covered in a snowy blanket. Fresh grist to your paints and pens. Xxx

Well sitting here across the pond, I would say you have more that works for you than doesn't! Wonderful Alison - although everything you painted was stunning, I love the sunflowers the most. I also love the fact that your Mother comments on your blog.
Thinking of you,
Sandy xx

You're doing well, they look fab, Alison! Don't envy the trans country move... I can't think of anything more stressful, especially at this time! x

Such beautiful artworks Alison, you swap seamlessly from Mixed Media to watercolour with such ease. I certainly do not envy your move at the moment, but as you say with Brexit, now is definitely the time to go. Perhaps you could take Boris with you.... Take care, and have a great (or maybe just settle for productive week, Sue xx

Alison, you have some keen observation skills, paired with mad watercolor skills! I just adore seeing your artwork, and I'm so pleased you tucked in that berry one for our challenge over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog! Yes! So happy you took me up on the 'alternate' prompt of Purple, orange and green, it doesn't have to be Halloween!

I'm envious of your artistry!! A particular cheer for the sycamore seeds - as I scrolled I thought # 9 was real, the shadowing effects give excellent dimension. Well done you, and bless your energy!! Nicola x
