Soothing your senses

Hello all!  It's time for another contribution to the Summer Countryside theme I'm hosting at Art Journal Journey this month.  There are already so many fabulous entries that I'm just about keeping up with so far - thank you so much - and I'm looking forward to many more.  For today's page I'm soothing my senses with flowers and butterflies again.

I'm still working in the same square journal - I may delve into one of my others soon, but at the moment I'm enjoying the freshness of the bright white pages.

This page started with some splatters of Salvaged Patina and Speckled Egg (just cleaning my brush from the previous page0 and then I added some strips of the wide washi tape I've been using as well as some crackle paste.

It's a combination I always enjoy.  Sometimes I seal it to keep the crackles in place... sometimes I just let it be.

The glorious Tim Holtz Flower Field Thinlit is cut from some spritzed and dipped papers.

There's Bundled Sage, Speckled Egg, Salvaged Patina and Peeled Paint involved, as far as I recall - Inks and Oxides of most of them.

And I found myself reaching for orange accents again... it's a very unusual colour for me to use, but it seems to have demanded to be involved lately.  (The furthest I'll usually go is "rust"!)

The flower stickers are on clear acetate, so if you catch them at certain angles they have a glossy light-catching ability which makes me happy...

It's always nice to have some sunlight when you're in the countryside.

And the orange and gold-toned flowers work really beautifully...

... to complement the Tim Holtz acetate butterfly hovering above them.

A tiny game spinner with a touch of white paint provides his body.

The quote is from another of my recent stamp collections at PaperArtsy, EAB21 Nature Edition.  I tried out several positions for it, and I'm still not sure I've got it right... ah well, the words themselves are what matters.  It's stamped in Olive Archival on some of the spritzed paper left over after cutting the Flower Field.

A few sequins are also scattered around to capture extra sunbeams.

And I'm glad I kept the openness of the bright light sky above rather than filling it up with the quote (which was one of the options under consideration).

The textures and layers make me happy, but normal colour service may have to be resumed soon... blue flowers next, I'm guessing!!

That seems like plenty to be going on with.  I'm so happy you are continuing to be inspired by the idea of the Summer Countryside, and I'm looking forward to seeing your art journal pages over at Art Journal Journey through the rest of July.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you're enjoying a wonderful weekend, whatever you're up to.  Happy crafting all!

Let me drink from the waters where the mountain streams flood
Let the smell of wildflowers flow free through my blood
Let me sleep in your meadows with the green grassy leaves.

  11. Another absolutely stunning journal page, Alison. I really liked the bright orange you chose, which is SO unlike you. It's great to see you adding colors outside your normal range. The crackle turned out great, too. Thank you for another inspiring entry using your theme at art Journal Journey. That's a beautiful quote, too.
