Hello all! So the removal quotes, the sorting and the early stages of list-making for packing have started... I'm going to be more distracted than ever for a while, I'm afraid. Not much time for trying to make my peace with New Blogger, so I'm taking the easy option for this post. Rather than struggling to get the photos where I like to have them, I'm sharing something a bit different where I can just let them all go down the centre because that's where they belong.
This is a series of textured landscapes with light. Though some of them are really seascapes with light. They emerged after conversations with my closest friend last year after her father had died. I didn't decide on them, they just happened, one after another, seeking the light.
So I'm not going to say much more about them, and rather let them speak for themselves.
But for those who are curious about such things, they are in a 10 x 10 inch journal on heavyweight paper, using heavy gesso and Golden heavy body acrylics for the most part, with some occasional collaging.
I hope you like them, and that perhaps they speak to you in these dark times. We have to keep seeking the light.
Thank you so much for stopping by today. If you're interested, I'll try to document a bit of the dismantling of the craft room and the remantling (?!) at the other end, where I'll be moving into a larger art space... though I'm pretty sure I'll be filling it up straight away. I hope you are all doing okay, and I'll try to do some catching up in between the busy stuff. Stay safe, stay well, stay creative.
Light chooses an unexpected part of the landscape to trick out in gilt, and then the shadow sweeps it away.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

Those as amazing landscapes Alison. The light is uplifting, but I also love the roughness to some of land scenery. You certainly used a lot of great texture on these. Thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey. Hope the packing goes well. That sounds like a big job. I also hope you have a bit of art time too. Happy weekend. hugs-Erika

I thought I'd beebop in and see what you are up to. Moving? Oh my! That's a tiresome business. I knew Blogger changed as you are not the first to gnash teeth over it. Lovely and introspective pages, such texture! Such interesting things to view even if it is in one's own mind's eye.
ReplyDeleteWOW..stunning backgrounds Alison, I so wish I could paint, I may start taking lessons, I LOVE the texture you have and the colours are perfect..FABulous.

Ohhh Wow! Alison this is a stunning piece of art. I can't take my eyes off it. Well done my friend. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteLovely textured landscapes
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful Alison, you have captured some wonderful light and shade and I can really feel your mood in the paintings. I just love them all! Anne xx
ReplyDeleteHi Alison, beautiful landscapes. I still don't understand why they needed to alter blogger. Although everything is there that was on the old interface it's not obvious where they are and it certainly isn't as simple to use and you might have thought that if they upgrade something they would make it easier to use not harder. Have a lovely week, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteyour texture is astounding... I am sitting here trying to imagine how to achieve them on fabric... do you have a tutorial somewhere?
ReplyDeleteI'm tired, so very tired of new blogger too... people say wordpress is just as bad but I can't imagine...LeeAnna
They are all wonderful ~ so beautiful and creative ~ Absolutely, love your style ~

LeeAnna, thank you. There's no tutorial for these yet... I was following my heart at the time.
ReplyDeleteBut part of my reason for moving - mid-pandemic - to a new home in a new country is to create more space (physically and financially) for setting up filming and tutorials. It won't be before 2021 realistically, but watch this space!

Hi Alison, I love what you painted and you found light in all of them.
ReplyDeleteI have started to paint the last two years. When I photograph I search for the light. That is what I photograph. And now I try to paint it.
I like your ocean like light :)
beautiful Alison! All of your landscapes are stunning!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Alison! These are so beautiful! You are so talented! I love them! Big hugs
ReplyDeleteGorgeous backgrounds, the LIGHT truely shines through!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteWell, these paintings did not need words, they certainly do speak to one as you stroll through the post. What beautiful emotive pictures you have painted. If that comes about from seeking the light then I guess I had better try to do it myself. These are utterly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Alison for sharing.
Off for another few minutes with them,
Hugs, Neet xx
Beautiful land/seascapes and there's some wonderful textures going on too.
ReplyDeleteAvril xx
These are beautiful Alison, so full of light and hope. Good luck with your packing, I really do not envy you but it may be a good time to de-clutter (says she who's lived in the same place for nearly 40 years with someone who never throws anything away lol) Take care and have a very happy month xx
